During Summer 1993, the
Northeast Parallel Architectures Center
(NPAC) at Syracuse University conducted a 10-week Research Experiences for
Undergraduates (REU) Program in High-Performance Computing.
Fifteen "Research Apprentices"
took part in the program.
Academic majors of 1993 REU Research Apprentices included computer science,
engineering (several disciplines), physics, mathematics, economics and
fine arts.
The NPAC REU program has two main components: intensive training
in high-performance computing, and an individual research project
conducted under the supervision of
members of the NPAC reseach staff and Syracuse University faculty.
Abstracts and papers
for all 1993 NPAC REU projects are available for immediate retrieval.
Synopses of two projects are also available as Web "research poster"
presentations:
Funding for the 1993 NPAC REU program was provided
by the National Science Foundation (Grant CDA-9200577),
the GE Foundation Faculty for the Future Program, Syracuse University
academic offices (Vice President of Research & Computing, Dean of
College of Arts & Science, Dean of College of Engineering and Computer Science,
Dean of Graduate School), and the
