Every Summer, the Northeast Parallel Architectures Center
(NPAC) at Syracuse University conducts a 10-week Research
Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program in
High-Performance Computing and Communications.

The 1996 Summer brought students, our "Research Apprentices", from 7 states. These
Apprentices are lead by Research Scientist Nancy McCracken and Teaching Assistant Jason Krug. The Academic majors of the 1996 REU
Research Apprentices include Computer Science, Applied Mathematics and
Statistics, BioEngineering, Biology, Information Studies, Chemistry,
Computer Engineering, and Physics.
The NPAC REU program has two main components: 1) etensive training in high-performance computing
and communications, beginning with a week full of training and
continuing through the summer with weekly seminars, and 2) individually
completing a research project in one of these topics.
During the summer, thier research is conducted under the supervision
of members of the NPAC research staff and Syracuse University
faculty.
Each member of the 1996 REU Program must write three documents and
make two presentations. Each proposal, WWW poster, and final paper
can be found on the WWW when they are available. If you would like to
see one of the presentations, please feel free to come to any that are
of interest to you.
The NPAC REU Program is funded by the National Science Foundation
under an REU Site award (NSF Grant CDA-9424332), with additional
support provided by Syracuse University and NPAC. Additional funding for
the 1995 program was provided by the Ultra Corporation and the City
University of New York City College.
